weekend + fashion campus nyc

THIS PAST WEEKEND, ME AND SOME FELLOW INTERNS FROM STYLECASTER ATTENDING THE FIRST 'FASHION CAMPUS NYC' HELD BY PARSONS NEW SCHOOL FOR DESIGN. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WE LISTED TO EXPERTS FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND WERE ABLE TO NETWORK WITH THEM ALSO. BECAUSE WE KNOW HOW IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS AND NETWORKING IS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY. AFTER A LONG DAY FRIDAY OF PREPARING FOR PHOTO SHOOTS THIS UPCOMING WEEK, ME AND ANOTHER INTERN RUSHED TO MAKE IT TO THE EVENT ON TIME ON FRIDAY. WE LISTENED TO FASHION INDUSTRY EXPERTS FROM CFDA, SAKS, WEST ELM, AND SO MUCH MORE. AFTER EACH OF THE SPOKE, WE WERE ABLE TO ASK THEM QUESTIONS. ON SATURDAY, WE WERE SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT SESSIONS PERTAINING TO WHICH PART OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY WE ARE INTERESTED IN LIKE PR, PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, AND ACCOUNTING. AND TO FINISH THE EVENT, WE LISTENED TO DEREK LAM SPEAK. I WAS ABLE TO ASK HIM A QUESTION OF MY OWN AND HE KINDLY ANSWERED. I GREW MORE RESPECT FOR DEREK LAM AFTER THIS WEEKEND.

SO LATELY, THE ONLY PICTURES I TAKE ARE WITH MY INSTAGRAM APP ON MY IPHONE.   I'VE BEEN TOO LAZY TO CARRY AROUND MY CAMERA AND ALSO SCARED I'LL BRAKE IT OR GET IT STOLEN. MY IPHONE IS MUCH MORE CONVENIENT. THESE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I'VE BEEN GOING ALL AROUND THE CITY. ME AND MY FRIENDS TRIED MAX BRENER, THE CHOCOLATE RESTAURANT, BUT WE WERE DISAPPOINTED. WE EXPECTED A PLACE OF CHOCOLATE HEAVEN, BUT WERE GREETED BY CHOCOLATE DISAPPOINTMENT. I ENJOYED A NIGHT IN BRYANT PARK FOR OLD SUMMER MOVIES AND MEET THE MOST INTERESTING GROUP OF PEOPLE. OF COURSE, I WOULD GET STUCK NEXT TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAD A BLOW UP CACTUS AND A GIRL DOING YOGA. I'VE BEEN SPLURGING ON SHOPPING IN SOHO, AND GOING DEEPER INTO CENTRAL PARK. THE BEST PARK ABOUT NOT CARRYING A CAMERA THOUGH IS THE FACT PEOPLE MISTAKE ME FOR A REAL LOCAL. BUT THE BAD PART IS WHEN PEOPLE ASK FOR DIRECTION, I TEND TO GIVE THEM THE WRONG ONE. I'VE STEPPED AWAY FROM MANHATTAN TO GO TO MY FAVORITE PART OF BROOKLYN-WILLIAMSBURG. WE HIT UP THE NORTHSIDE MARKET TO SEE IF WE CAN FIND VINTAGE JEWELRY, BUT WE WERE MORE IMPRESSED WITH THE MANHATTAN SKYLINE. I STIL HAVE 5 WEEKS LEFT, SO WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE I'LL BE DOING AND ADDING TO MY INSTAGRAM DIARY.

brooklyn + east river ferry

New York opened up the East River Ferry a few weeks ago and for two weeks it was free to ride. It took you from Wall Street to Brooklyn and Queens. Anything to get a glimpse of the beautiful New York skyline calls my name, and anything that has the word 'free' in front of it does also. After taking the Staten Island Ferry a week before, I was breath taken by the lower manhattan skyline. When I rode the East River Ferry, I loved seeing the entire New York skyline, along with the Brooklyn bridge.
Like a natural tourist, I took a minimum of 50 shots. It got me thinking 'how many pictures do you need of the Empire State Building?' No matter what angle you take it at, it will always look the same and be in the same place. When I got home, I laughed at myself for taking so many pictures and deleted a little more than half of them.
I took the East River Ferry to Williamsburg, Brooklyn- one of my favorite parts of Brooklyn. While it has its more industrial side to it, I loved the young, hip feeling to it. Walking down Bedford avenue with the little coffee shops and vintage shops is my favorite part of this area. I wouldn't have 'discovered' this place if my job didn't have a photo shoot in this area.

To go from seeing guys in t-shirts and gym shorts to seeing well dressed men has been {one of} the best parts of people watching in New York. While I don't necessarily despise the underdressed just rolled out of bed look on a guy, I find it much more enjoyable to see them actually put together. I will admit, I have gotten out of bed and went to class in leggings- yes I wear them as pants, kill me- and a basic top, but what can you do when you miss your alarm clock and have to scurry to class- after a long night of mischief.
Sometimes seeing a well dressed man in New York will make me question his sexual preference, but, either way, I'll keep staring and admiring the fact that you were bold enough to walk out of you apartment/studio in that.

photo diary + around nyc

This past week has been rather... boring- mainly at work. It's been a 'dead week' I feel like, even though mens fashion week is going on. However, since there hasn't been much hustle and bustle in the workplace, I get some extra time to look at half naked male models walk down the runway. Favorite so far- DSquare2. While jamming out to my Empire of the Sun & Katy Perry pandora stations, I'm typically looking at Style.com or WWD for some shopping trend stories I can write for my internship. Something good did come out my internship this week, free beauty products and clothes. I guess this is how they pay the free labor? No complaints. I was able to stuff 1 huge shopping bag full of beauty products. When I got home, I realized I have 4 of the same shade of red lipstick colors. But who can deny a bagful of {free} beauty products? Especially when it knocks off not having to buy shampoo and conditioner.
